Society of Investigative Sciences (working title)
Founder: Doctor Hans Gentewilde
Summary: Founded by Hans Gentewilde, a former S.I.S. researcher who still contracts out for occasional experiments. Dr. Gentewilde became fascinated- some say obsessed- with the paranormal. He started Ectocorp a decade ago, and has publicly failed (repeatedly) to contact the dead beyond what a Spiritualist could do. It is rumored that he wanted to physically enter the land of the dead. Two years ago, he announced his intention to study the viscous fluid expelled by most Abominations when they die. He believed that the ichor- dubbed “ectoplasm” after the mythical substance of which ghosts were said to be comprised- could rejuvenate living beings and perhaps allow them to cross the threshold between life and death. He has not been seen since he retreated to his labs two years ago, although he does communicate via canned voice messages (similar to voicemail- the closest thing this world has to telephones) and message wire with colleagues. His teams of scientists are still very active out in the field.
Two years ago (around when he disappeared), his lead researcher, Doctor Beatrice Wexeley-Hines, had compiled some promising data regarding the healing and transmissive properties of ectoplasm. He abandoned his defective Seance Emigrifier (a device intended to narrow the focus and increase the control of Spiritualists) in favor of Dr. Wexeley-Hines’ work. Very little is known about his continued research in this area.
